March Team Member of the Month- Chris!!!!

Recognition of this month’s Team Member of the Month has been a long time coming. On a day to day bases, Chris D. is by far one of the most relied upon staff member the HAH has. So often his time is left unscheduled so that each day he can be asked to do what ever is needed to keep the day moving. Be sure, that is certainly what happens.

Chris has been a part of the HAH team for 13 years with only a "short" hiatus that we like to forget. He is a doctor's technician, an emergency technician, a receptionist and a kennel attendant all in the same shift and wears his many hats effortlessly. Chris has a unique sense of humor and vision of the world that keeps us all laughing.

It is easy to see his value everyday and the entire HAH team is lucky to have him on board.
Congratulations to Chris, our March Team Member of the Month!

Career day with Dr. Robert Swinger and "Harvey".

Dr. Robert Swinger, our Board Certified Ophthalmologist went on a field trip this week to Pentab Academy in Miami. He took Harvey one of the HAH Blood Donors and gave 130 kids from kindergarten to 7th grade a hands on experience of what it is like to be a Vet. Debbie, Dr. Swinger's technician and all around right hand wo-man came along to share in the event. This team certainly seemed to have fun!

Looks like Debbie is hard at work!!

A HAH success story.

Two months ago this little guy was found in a wooded construction area nearby and brought to the HAH. He weighed 4.5 pounds and was deeply weakened by the very contagious Canine Parvovirus. Dr. Carlos took him in and immediately began intravenous fluids and antibiotics to give this guy a fighting chance. Thing did not look great for him but as his mother said- she wasn't giving him the choice not to get better.  For 6 days, Stevie stayed in an isolated intensive care area of the hospital. Slowing he began showing signs of recovery and was release with a hopeful prognosis.

13 weeks old
Today Stevie came in for his final set of puppy vaccines and to schedule his neuter. Stevie is a success story and we are so pleased to be able to share his tale. Watch this vido to learn more about Canine Parvovirus from Dr. Patterson!

Team Wolverine

Hollywood Animal Hospital sponsored an Optimist Football team this past season and we are so proud of them! Their season record was 9 and 1. They were picked as "Team of the Week" by the Miami Dolphins and sat sideline at one of their games and even got a chance to meet the coaches and players. They were also their "Superbowl" runner-ups. We are so proud of Team Wolverine!

March Patient of the Month- Trevi

This month we recognize a patient with a very different story. This 3 ½ year old, male Great Dane has been a patient of the HAH since he was 6 months old and been in the care of Dr. Herrington for all of his wellness needs. However, this month he is not being recognized for his stories written within our hospital rather we would like to recognize him for his adventures outside of these four walls.

Trevi, full name OHBIS CH Great View's of the Fontana Di Trevi at BWK, CGC, AOM is an award winning show dog that holds the distinction of being Owner Handled. This means that his momma, Amber, is also his handler. Amber and Trevi have been together since he was 8 weeks old and truly have a special connection. They have traveled the country together showing off his skills in obedience, tricks, rally, and agility as well as his more typical “tricks” like playing dead, grabbing a tissue/towel when  Amber sneezes, taking a bow, peek-a-boo and dancing...to name a few. He is a Canine Good Citizen and simply loves to learn and have fun. As does his mom.

In his career, Trevi has received the 2013, #2 Owner Handler Great Dane in the Country. He was first grand championship major going Best of Breed on the Florida January Circuit beating out 39 other Great Danes and is officially listed in the Top 20 Great Danes in the Country.

His most recent charge was at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club just this year where he received an Award of Merit out of an entry of 32 Great Danes!

“It was an honor just to show [at Westminster]! I was a little nervous but we were also very excited, the most important thing for us is to have a good time while we are out there! Trevi showed like a dream that day! He really gave it his all….This was honestly a dream come true!”

“Saying how proud this boy makes me just isn't enough! He truly is my best friend and it's such a fun adventure and amazing experience traveling around the country with him! We are currently traveling around still showing in Breed & the Owner Handler Series, so hopefully we will have more exciting news to share in the future!”- Amber
