Team Member of the Month for May: Ashley Cutter

Ashley Cutter started working at the Hollywood Animal Hospital in February, 2007 as a receptionist. Although it was her ultimate goal to become a Veterinary Assistant, she was a terrific receptionist and it was hard for us to let her go. About a years ago, we finally relinquished her and she got her wish to be a Veterinary Assistant. Ashley excelled in that department as well. Most recently, Ashley has become a Veterinary Technician in training and has already become an outstanding part of our technician team! What makes Ashley one of our most valued employees is, her willingness to lend a hand in any department. Her positive attitude is something we wish we could bottle!

May Pet of the Month: Jordan

“Jordan” Mujovic, a 20 week old Boston Terrier was brought to the HAH after owner noticed him acting lethargic, not eating, vomiting and diarrhea. Jordan was immediately tested and hospitalized for Parvovirus.

Jordan’s recovery took about a week and involved intensive hospitalized care, IV fluid and medications. He was monitored closely by not only his family but a crew of very dedicated doctors and technicians. By his fifth day of hospitalization, Jordan was getting brighter and with the introduction of chicken, he started to eat.

Earlier this month, Jordan returned for his two week recheck and is doing great. His parents have the happy, healthy puppy back that we all grew to love.

Staff Member of the Month: Kathy

Kathy Ziezio is our Staff Member of the Month for April! She has been one of our most valuable team members since March of 1989. Even though Dr. Sessa keeps her very busy, she still manages to take the very best care of his patients, to help out wherever she can and to do so with a smile on her face! We hope Kathy is part of our team for a long time to come.

Pets & Lawn Fertilizer

Did you know that lawn fertilizer can be toxic to your pet if consumed? If your dog likes to roll in the grass, dig holes, or lick their feet after coming inside, you should use caution when choosing your lawn fertilizer. Always read all packages carefully before purchasing, as most manufacturers have specific recommendations about how long your pets should remain off the grass after application. When possible, use products specifically labeled as "pet-safe", to lessen the danger.

Mobilize the Earth for Earth Day 2012

The first Earth Day, on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life to speak out against the deterioration of the environment and demand change. As a result, the Environmental Protection Agency was created, the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts were passed, and the modern environmental movement was born.

Today, more than 1 billion people in 192 countries participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world. This year, in the face of global inaction on pressing environmental problems, we must harness that power.

Earth Day Network is calling upon individuals, organizations, businesses and governments to Mobilize the Earth™ and demand that environmental issues become a top priority.

April Patient of the Month-NALA

Nala Calcagno is our April Patient of the Month! Nala is a three year old Cane Corso that was presented last month for lethargy and vomiting. During the consultation with Dr. Londono, abnormalities on the stomach were noted and Nala vomited again. X-rays were done and a foreign body was seem immediately. Nala had emergency surgery, with Dr. Grasso, and an intact medium sized KONG was removed from her stomach. Nala is now home with her brother "Boss", a black Fila Brasileiro and recovering well. Nala's owners were offered the KONG as a parting gift but we all agreed it was a hazard!
