Help us give a big "Paws Up" to our VCA vendor support of this year's Pet Food Drive!!

Help us give a big "Paws Up" to our VCA vendor support of this year's Broward Meals on Wheels (BMOW) Pet Food Drive!!

Since it's inception, our food drive has brought our community together to collect food for pet's of homebound seniors in our county.

Seniors on a restricted budget can have a difficult time meeting their own needs and often the needs of their companion animals can be neglected.

With the support of this food drive  BMOW for Companion Animals continues to provide delivery of food for these loyal pets once a month to clients of BMOW.

Through the generous support of our VCA Partners, we are once again able to host this food drive and match a portion of the food donated. Each year we are affirmed by the success of previous years’ food drive and proud to be able to be a part of such an impactive community effort.

Thank you to these partners for their support. Without whom this drive would not serve so many of our pet community.

Broward Meals on Wheels Food Drive Results- 2014!!!!

The VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital Meals on Wheels Food Drive for Pets was a success!!!!

Every year we are excited to sponsor this drive and are grateful for the consistent community support. Food donations this year nearly matched the total combined donations of last year. A total of 3479 lbs of food were delivered by the community and with our hospital's match of 1500 lbs. the final amount delivered was nearly 5000 pounds of food this BMOW for Companion Animals.

As we have shared on Facebook, many community groups organized their own food drives to help support our efforts. Additionally, over $800 in monetary donations were made which will allow this volunteer based program to continue to provide food for community pets even after our bounty is used.

Thank  you to all who donated, shared and supported this food drive! Thank you to our sponsors; Henry Schein, Hills and Purina for helping to make the VCA HAH match possible. Thank you to Dr Deane at Weston Animal Hospital, the folks at Community Bank of HollywoodAmatheon Pharmaceuticals, and the students of McFatter P.A.W.S. Club for their organized collection efforts and to

"We are so proud to be a part of the Broward Meals on Wheels for Pets Project and the community the supports it."

McFatter’s New P.A.W.S Club is Working to Make a Difference for the Animals in Our CommunityMcFatter’s New P.A.W.S Club is Working to Make a Difference for the Animals in Our Community

Animal lovers and those interested in community service, take note: one of McFatter’s newest clubs, People for Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S), is placing animal rights and awareness on the forefront and working to aid the animals in our community.

Meetings generally consist of different topics, all pertaining to one facet of animal welfare:endangered animals. The food industry, vegetarian options, greyhound adoptions, and puppy mills are among those planned to be covered by the end of the school year.  The club would also like to extend invitations to guest speakers.

Mrs. Zulueta, Sponsor of P.A.W.S., has several activities planned for the club in 2013.
“To fundraise, we would like to sell ‘Puppy Love Packages’ or ‘Orange Crush’ grams around Valentine’s Day. We would also like to sponsor food, towel, and toy drives for local animal shelters.”

She hopes to raise money through several fundraisers, the money from which will be sent to Broward County’s Humane Society and other local animal shelters, as well as to be pledged during Walk for the Animals.  Moreover, she hopes to raise awareness about the pressing issues affecting animals on a global scale of which the general population is often not aware

Mrs. Zulueta encourages all members of the student body to join the club.

“It is important to be a voice for those that can’t speak. Animals are innocent and deserve to be treated with respect and love. Students in all grades are encouraged and welcome to join and do their part to help an animal in need.”
The club’s president, Denise Akerman, is excited to see how the club will evolve over the course of the school year.
“Although most members are fellow sophomores, I hope to see interest in the club develop across all four grades and welcome anyone passionate about the cause to join,” she says.“If I can change at least one person’s perspective and have them become more privy to and sympathetic towards animal rights issues, I believe I will have done my job.”

HAH Broward Meals on Wheels Food Drive 2013 RESULTS!!!! - $4000 lbs

This year, Hollywood Animal Hospital's Meals on Wheels Food Drive for Pets was an even larger success then anticipated. While last year we were amazed by the generosity of the community, this year we were completely flabbergasted. Whether is be the 'season of giving' or simply the generosity of this county we collected twice as much food this year then last. With the match from the HAH, just over 4000 lbs of food was delivered to Broward Meals on Wheels for Pets this week.

Members of our community gave and gave. People shared this food drive through social media outlets as well as word of mouth campaigns and boy did that word get around! Multiple individuals even organized their own private food drives at home and work; dropping off food to our lobby in astounding amounts.

"The quantity of food used monthly by Broward Meals on Wheels for Pets is around 800 lbs alone for the southern portion of Broward County. This food collection will go a long way to help feed these furry family members of the seniors in need here in Broward.", said Bobbi Arnold, Co- Chair of Broward Meals on Wheels for pets.

The final day of the drive was given another shot of adrenaline when folks that stopped by for the Free Santa Photos in the Annex gave generously to the cause. With the collection of even more food that day, we were able to pass along $170 collected for the purchase of more food.

"We feel so pleased to be associated with the Broward Meals on Wheels for Pets organization. The community support we've seen is indicative of the kind of community we live and work in and we could not be happier to give back with them."

Thank  you to all who donated, shared and supported this food drive.

Happy Holidays to all!

2013 Meals on Wheels Pet Food Drive

When:   Monday- Saturday 7:30am- 7:00pm

               Now - December 14, 2013

The Broward Meals on Wheels for Companion Animals program began in 1990 when volunteers began noticing clients were sharing their meals with their pets. Seniors on  a fixed income who find it challenging to meet their own needs are especially emotional about their pets and thier ability to feed them. Pets can provide the unconditional love and companionship that brings us joy at any age.

"The program relies entirely upon donation and volunteers", says Mark Adler, Executive Director of Broward Meals on Wheels. " Our community partners, volunteers and donors have been incredibly generous and are committed to the well being of our seniors and their 4 legged families."

This year Hollywood Animal Hospital is hosting our second Annual Pet Food Drive. We are asking for donations of pet food: wet or dry, canine or feline be dropped off at our hospital and we will match it pound for pound!!

"Hosting the food drive is our way of giving back to the Hollywood community that has supported us for so many years.  We were moved by the generosity of our clients and community last year and look forward to even greater success this year" said Dr. James Dee Owner of HAH. Last year we collected 1000lbs of food and with the help of our partners at Hills and Purina Pet Foods delivered a total donation of 2000lbs.
